Day 5 Taiwan - Exotic

Back to the 80s

Here we are Jiu Fen(九分), Tohua(豆花).

No seriously we at Jiu fen Old Street(九分久道). This place also known as Nine Ruifang District. This place was one of the old time Taiwan nine development program, hence this place is historical.
This somewhat is similar to our Malaysia's Petaling Street. The moment we step in, whole area is filled with history, old shops, old people, traditional food.
Like I said in the previous post, the weather is cold, and is been raining for 9 days non-stop! Quickly grab a bowl of fish cake soup to warm out bodies.
Handmade fish cake with fish ball soup. Located just beside the entrance, packed.
We never able to took much photo of the street because is so crowded and cold and wet. But we did walk around try some street food, look some exotic item and get wet.

After some long hours of exploring, we climb a freaking long stairs to this place. The stairs is long and steep, and wet and cold with bags and jackets, hectic.
But we did get rewarded with this tasty warming desert. It is tapioca, potato, sweet potato toro balls dessert with red beans, green beans and barley. We shouldn't call this a dessert, a energy restore meal. YUM!
QQ stands for chewy, and it does!
Since today is our tour guide last day escorting us, he decided to treat us these. Now this pack of black stuffs that looks like sausage that is black(no pun intended and not a racist joke), it is actually chicken and pork guts.

I'm a fans of the guts, so I'm enjoying this very very very much.
Chicken and pork's intestine, liver, kidney, stomach, heart, etc. Pack with flavours and wonders!
Before we head back, we pay a visit to this place. The Jiu Fen Secret Base (九分秘密基地). If you did your homework, Jiu Fen is a place filled with hidden gems, and this is one of them.

Jiu Fen Secret Base is a place that an uncle stores his props and antiques from older drama/movie production company, display it here for free. To promote the old times to the younger generation. It is free entrance, but he do accept a donation to keep this place alive.
This uncle is generous enough to let the visitors play it. You can wear it, touch it, play it, do anything with it. As long as you don't break and steal it, and I bet there's isn't anyone gonna do it anyway.

This place fills with nostalgia. Our childhood memories. Some toys here we played since we were kid, ah the memories.
For example this star chess. I believe the current generation don't even know what is this. Not even my younger brother who is 6 years different. Now days, their toys is ipad, iphone, computeres or console.
Mr. Wang is so good that our 4 brain combined still lost.

Is been a good time with Mr.Wang, accompany us for 4 days. He is a good tour guide, even the price is a bit expensive than the normals one you can find on the net, but he's friendly, talkative, when there's a jam or something, he do it extra time to make sure we enjoy our trip. Kudos Mr.wang, hope we meet again, and thanks for the great service!

Back to our ming su, we felt something is wrong. Something is missing. Oh ya we didn't take our dinner! It is 10pm, we slept after we reached around 6pm. Majority restaurant is starting to close, and we don't feel like going to a bar or something.

Guess what, it's always been my dream to taste the Bian Dang(便当), known as pre-made food or convenient food. We always see this in Japanese or Taiwanese drama where they buy this from the train station or the convenient store. It's TIME!
Pork Rib with Ham and mix vege rice + Milk Tea
Pork Rib with Lipton's milk tea NTD 50. Damn.... Y U NO IN MALAYSIA!
The store keeper will come to you and explain if you have doubt, ah the friendliness. The Bian Dang is store cold, so the shop keeper will heat it for you.
Itadakimasu!  ><
Now leave me alone to enjoy this delicious meal and sleep.
