Day 6 Taiwan - Old vs New

History shall prevail

Rain and rain and rain. The last thing we wanted is rain. Aren't we get enough raining in Malaysia?
Day 6, we went to the famous Yang Ming Shan( 阳明山). Please do not come during winter time as you will miss out a lot of attractions. Yes again, due to fog, we are not allowed to go to the top. So we went to the Guangfu Building instead, just on the way to the top of the mountain.
Sad morning face by Lim Laa laa
GuangFu Building(光复楼) - Built in 1971 to commemorate the Xinhai Revolution, some historical stuffs, inside now is a gift store.

These stuffs is amazing when curing our throat
Dried tea leaf egg, kinda rare, taste like normal egg but the aroma is awesome. Totally different from those wet ones in Malaysia.
Beware that very few people comes here in winter time as the road is slippery and wet and cold. However the lady stall owner treat us some really nice green tea and chat with us. As a return, we bought some eggs from her.

Next stop to Jin Bao Li Old Street(金包里老街). Also know as Jin Shan Old Street(金山老街) which is more common name. This street has a whooping 200 years history.

As you can see, this shop is selling the old school snacks from the 70s, 80s & 90s. Most of us been there done that, the most memorable  is the pop rock and the cola jelly which we used to have when having tuition during primary school.
You hardly find these stuffs anymore
Many vendors here selling Taiwan's traditional snacks and food, which is an eye opener for us. Here's they sell thousand years egg, salty egg and some sweet potato.
Hot spring thousand years egg and salty egg, which is very delicious, the yolk is half cooked makes it a smooth and creamy taste.
Tons of cake and dessert and kuih to fill in your carbs need.
The chocolate coloured cake taste just like Malay cake.
The street is getting packed as the time approaches noon. We stop by Kuang An Temple(广安庙) for their famous stir fry dishes.
There's no fancy waiter serving you, and the 'hand' doesn't work in Taiwan.
First you need to find a table just a couple a shop lot away form the temple, usually is full so be patients. Second, never come alone, as you need a person guard the table, another person to order food. Best is come with a bunch of friends.
Third, order food at the temple's entrance. There's the stall where the food is cooked, you need to take the food yourself.
Forth, bring your own water as they don't beverage. However, there's some sellers will approach you to buy their's herb drinks, which is totally delicious and thirst killer and lower the 'fire' in your body.

Stir Fried Eels
Duck
Braised Pork Kuncles
Fried Noodles
The food is delicious, however not sure is it just me or the food taste a little bit alkaline, especially the fried noodles. Not the best food in Taiwan, but due to historical purpose we had to try.

This old street not just only sold old and traditional products, but also selling contemporary food too.
Ayu food is a grandma selling new style of Muachi which is dried dough and coat with peanut/sesame or any other flavours. Perfect match of old style and new style.

Went to see some scenery before heading to our next destination
Here we are at Dan Shui(淡水).
This is the best Bubble Tea in Taiwan. Favourite for the locals, and its true, it is very delicious and the bubble is very small and chewy, the tea is using the famous Taiwan's red tea from Sun Moon Lake.

Then we walk to the Dan Shui Old Street and hunt food!

The famous Ba Wan(肉圆)
Then we stop by this shop. Crazily shared on social network and youtube, the famous funny Turkish Ice-cream man. Hilarious performance. Even it is Winter, I still gotta try it, being fooled by this man.

While I'm enjoying my Turkish ice-cream, we took some nice scenery shot of the sea in the evening.
Then we head to the street where the food and stalls are.
There's so much delicious food in this area, notice that we are still not in the famous night market yet, this is just a small market.

Pork Burger!!

The last shop of the day, used as gifts for wedding by famous Taiwan's host.
